Centennial finds the scoring touch in win over Barlow

The Eagles carry a 20-point margin through most of the second half

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Centennials Brooke Bearman protects the ball from Barlows Caitlyn Pemberton during the Eagles 55-30 win Tuesday night. The Centennial girls basketball team has expanded its options over the last few weeks, resulting in a four-game win streak and a climb up the Mount Hood Conference standings.

The team relied on twins Megan and Melissa Dailey to provide much of the scoring punch over the first half of the season, but in recent weeks other team members have found the shooting touch.

On Tuesday night, it was Megan Byram coming off the bench and sinking 3-pointers the first two times she touched the ball that powered the Eagles to a 28-14 halftime lead over Barlow. Coming out of the locker room, it was center Gabbi Schmitt doing the damage with an 8-footer off the glass on the opening possession, followed by a similar shot from the other side moments later.

The Eagles would go on to win 55-30.

The win marked four straight for the Eagles (10-7), who have climbed from the bottom half of the league up to second place heading into Friday’s game at defending champion Central Catholic (6-9).
