UO grad sets school pride in bronze
Alison Brown has made a name for herself early on in her career. The official University of Oregon sculptor, Brown's most recent creation, a 7-foot-tall bronze statue of the UO Duck mascot, posing in Rodin's "The Thinker" pose, has been installed at the university's new academic center Old Town at 109 N.W. Naito Parkway. It was commissioned by and donated to the university by Chris and Ron Sauer, 1980 UO alumni.
"This is an academic tribute piece," she says. "Students will be walking around it every day; it's students that occupy and use that space daily. I wanted this to inspire them."
Brown, who worked with famed sculptor Rip Caswell previously, also has an 8-foot bronze of the mascot positioned outside Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
