The Tri-City Dust Devils took the first meeting of the season against Hillsboro, beating the visiting Hops 3-1 on Friday night.
The Dust Devils scored single runs in the first two innings for a 2-0 edge.
The Hops got one back in the fifth, but gave up a run in the seventh.
Hillsboro had six hits; Tri-City managed seven.
For the Hops, designated hitter Luis Lara was 2 for 4 with a double, and catcher Daulton Varsho went 2 for 3 and scored a run.
Tyler Badamo (0-1) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings as the starter before 2,712 at Gesa Stadium.
The five-game series continues at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
Hillsboro fell to 8-8 in a tight South Division second-half race in the Class A Northwest League. Boise is 8-8, after winning at home over Everett, 11-8, on Friday.
