Oregon Public Broadcasting is reporting that famed Portland jazz musician and teacher Thara Memory died Saturday at age 68.
Memory played with distinction on bandstands in Portland and elsewhere and mentored students as auspicious as Esperanza Spaulding. Memory's health was failing for several years. He suffered from diabetes and kidney problems.
In the months before his death, Memory was charged with sex offenses that were not yet proven.
