A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car early Friday in Southeast Portland.
He is identified as Patrick Moore, 51, of Portland.
According to police, at 12:49 a.m. on July 14, East Precinct and Traffic Division officers responded to the report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Southeast Powell Boulevard east of Southeast 50th Avenue.
When officers and medical personnel arrived, they rendered aid to a pedestrian who suffered life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel were in the process of transporting the pedestrian to a Portland area hospital by ambulance when the person died.
The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to conduct a crash investigation. Preliminary information suggests the pedestrian crossed south over Southeast Powell Boulevard east of Southeast 50th Avenue and was struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian was not in a cross-walk at the time of the collision and pedestrian reportedly made an unexpected movement in front of an oncoming vehicle. The driver remained at the scene, contacted 9-1-1 to report the crash and is cooperating with the investigation.
The driver did not initially appear to be impaired while driving.
Police says this is the 20th traffic related fatality in Portland this year. There have been 10 traffic related fatalities in the last three weeks. By this time last year, 25 people had been killed in crashes.
