Kennedy's Abby Frey was quick to put her team on the scoreboad at the 2017 2A State Track and Field Championships.
The junior thrower placed seventh in the javelin competition with a final mark of 98-07, scoring two points for Trojan girls team at Hayward Field in Eugene on Thursday.
Frey made a return trip to the competition after placing fourth in the javelin at last year's state championships, and though she came close to matching her sophomore performance, the rest of the field came up just a bit better in the opening event of the day.
Frey started the day with a throw of 93-00 and peaked in the middle of the competition, finishing the preliminary round with a mark of 96-07 to head into the finals seeded 7th overall.
She bumped her mark up to 98-07 on the first throw of the finals, but couldn't surpass it on her final two throws. Though her throw was one her best of the season, it was shy of the personal-record mark of 105-06 she threw to win the Tri-River Conference championship the week before.
The competition was won with a throw of 128-11 by Grant Union sophomore Kaylee Wright, who earned her second consecutive 2A state title in the event after setting the 2A state meet record of 131-03 last year.
