Hyundai took the wraps off a sporty new 5-door wagon at last week's Chicago Auto Show. The 2018 Elantra GT and GT Sport models offer a more aggressive demeanor and more powerful engine options than the basic Elantra sedan.
The Elantra GT is powered by a direct-injected 2.0-liter engine rated at 162 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can choose either a six-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
The GT Sport comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and delivers 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The GT Sport offers a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch gear box.
Hyundai has also developed an improved sport suspension and handling package for both the GT and GT Sport models.
On the technology side, the new Hyundai 5-doors will be available with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assistance, automatic high-beams, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
A full 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is also available.
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT and Elantra GT Sport will be available for sale starting this summer.
