The all-new Regal Sportback sedan and Regal TourX will be in showrooms this fall.

PORTLAND TRIBUNE: JEFF ZURSCHMEDIE - The Regal Sportback is a mid-size passenger car with a sloping rear roofline that offers a rear hatch instead a traditional trunk.DETROIT - Buick has announced two all-new models for the 2018 model year, replacing the existing Regal sedan with a new fastback sedan and a station wagon design with crossover SUV suspension. Both models are expected in dealerships this autumn.

The Regal Sportback is a mid-size passenger car with a sloping rear roofline. Instead of a traditional trunk, the Sportback offers a rear hatch that offers excellent access to a large and useful trunk space. The effect is both stylish and sporty, while preserving utility. With the second row of seats folded down, the Regal Sportback offers 31.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

PORTLAND TRIBUNE: JEFF ZURSCHMEIDE - The 2018 Regal Sportback features a luxury interior with the latest automotive technologies."The new Regal Sportback was developed with today's active, independent premium car customer in mind," said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. "They have an SUV in the garage and are looking to complement it with a sport sedan, but have an appreciation for the usefulness of a versatile cargo space when an occasional need arises."

The 2018 Regal TourX is designed along the same lines. The wagon body style offers carrying capacity similar to an SUV, but the driving experience of a passenger car. The TourX is still a mid-size vehicle, but measures a full 3.4 inches longer than the Sportback.

PORTLAND TRIBUNE: JEFF ZURSCHMEIDE - The 2018 Regal TourX has a wagon body style with carrying capacity similar to an SUV, but the driving experience of a passenger car. With extensive lower body protection and a slightly raised suspension, the TourX is designed to compete with crossover wagons such as the Volvo XC60 Cross Country and the Audi Allroad. With up to 73.5 cubic feet behind the front seats, the TourX offers more overall cargo space than the Volvo V60 Cross Country, Audi A4 Allroad, BMW 3-series Sport Wagon and the Subaru Outback

Both vehicles will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 250 horsepower and up to 295 pound-feet of torque. A 9-speed automatic is offered with the front-wheel-drive Sportback, and an 8-speed automatic is offered with all-wheel-drive on both vehicles. All-wheel-drive is optional on the Sportback and standard on the TourX.

PORTLAND TRIBUNE: JEFF ZURSCHMEIDE - All-wheel-drive is standard on the 2018 Buick Regal TourX, which is designed to compete against more expensive luxury crossovers. Both vehicles will offer GM's 4G/LTE and in-car wifi, plus a 7-inch infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A complete suite of advanced safety features will be available on both models.

Pricing and fuel economy statistics have not yet been released for these models, but Buick expects to make major inroads into the luxury market and compete with the European brands with these cars. Both models will be manufactured in Germany.
